Canvas is a visual workspace in your videngineer Library. Use a board to collect reference material, arrange it into a sequence, and leave a plan that you or a collaborator can return to.

Start with a board

Create a board from the Library and choose a starting point:
  • Short video gives you a short-form storyboard structure.
  • Long video gives you a longer-form structure.
  • Blank starts with an empty board.
You can also change the template of an existing board. Templates give you a starting layout; you can move, add, edit, or remove the cards to fit your project.

Map the idea

Add text and notes for the idea, beats, production questions, or decisions. Notes support solid colors and six type treatments: Simple, Bookish, Soft, Technical, Scribbled, and Marker. Change the board between light and dark appearance, and use its dotted background as a visual guide while arranging cards. You can add a note directly with click-to-add. Use text cards for headings and labels. Add shapes to group or emphasize parts of the plan: rectangles, ovals, diamonds, triangles, inverted triangles, hexagons, and stars. A table card is available for structured content such as a script laid out in columns.

Show how pieces connect

Connect cards with straight, curved, dashed, directional, elbow, or line connectors. Freehand strokes are available for marks that do not need to attach to another card. Move or arrange cards as the plan changes.

Leave comments

Add a comment to a board to ask a question or record feedback. Resolve a comment when it is handled, and hide resolved comments when you want to focus on open threads. Board owners can share access; invited guests can comment, while owners retain board editing controls.

Bring in references

Add saved items from your Library, or choose material from one of your analyses. Canvas can place analysis frames, looks, and cuts as asset cards, so a useful visual reference can sit beside the note or beat it informs. You can also import a public image URL into your Library and place that saved image on the board. Canvas cards refer to Library assets, so an image you add this way remains available in your Library as well as on the board.

Share and revisit

Share a board with collaborators using the board’s sharing controls. Collaborators with guest access can add and resolve comments; they cannot edit the board’s layout. Team-visible boards can be opened read-only by teammates in the app. Canvas keeps recent version history. Open Version history to see the latest saved versions, their authors, and timestamps. Restoring a version makes it the new current version and keeps the history, so you can later return to another saved state.

Find your way around a large board

Use the minimap to jump to another part of the board, or use the fit and zoom controls to change the view. Fullscreen gives the board more room. The navigation menu provides board-level actions, including template and history controls.

Canvas limits

A board can contain up to 500 objects and its saved layout is limited to 2 MB. Canvas is available on paid plans. Analysis stills must come from an analysis you own; team access to someone else’s analysis does not transfer ownership for adding its stills.
